The proud owners of Kia`i Kai, this ocean's edge Bed & Breakfast only twenty-six minutes from downtown Hilo, John and Tory have been married for over 30 years and have 2 children. 

John retired from the Coast Guard after more than 28 years of service. He served on 8 ships including the ice breaker Polar Sea. In addition to Hawaii, they have lived on many coasts, including the Atlantic, Pacific, Gulf, and Great Lakes. Their last tour of duty was in Honolulu and they knew they wanted to live nowhere else but the land of Aloha.  John was recalled back on active duty for three years. He served on the cutter Heally, an ice breaker. He is home again, although he now does private consulting in marine propulsion.

Tory worked as a nurse, but now prefers to see to the needs of well people. She enjoys baking (feel free to email her for a recipe!) and is interested in Hawaiian quilting. 

Both John and Tory enjoy entertaining and traveling.
